Academic Scholarship Program

The Nautical Research Guild is proud to support the next generation of nautical historians, archeologists, architects, and builders.  Our Academic Scholarship Program is open for applications to individuals who are currently pursuing or plan to pursue these areas in a post-secondary or trade school setting.

Scope and Eligibility

The Program offers scholarships for academic study at the undergraduate or trade school level in the areas of nautical history, nautical archeology, naval architecture, and wooden boat building.

To be eligible for a scholarship under the Program, an applicant must meet the following requirements:

    1. The applicant is currently studying or intends to study nautical history, nautical archeology, naval architecture or wooden boat building, and is or will be a candidate for a degree at an educational organization.
    2. The applicant is currently studying or intends to study at the undergraduate or trade school level.
    3. The applicant is currently studying or intends to study at an educational organization located within the United States and its territories.
    4. If the applicant is not a United States citizen, the applicant must comply with any United States laws regarding foreign nationals studying in the United States.
    5. The applicant cannot have reached his/her twenty-fifth birthday during the year in which the application is made.
    6. The applicant must submit a complete application.

Directors, officers, agents, and employees of NRG, its affiliates, and anyone associated with the selection of scholarship recipients, and their families and persons living in their households are not eligible for scholarship benefits under the Program.

If a person makes a donation to NRG for restricted use in the Program, then the donor, his or her family, and persons living in his or her household are not eligible for scholarship benefits under the Program during the calendar year in which the donation is made.

Number and Amount of Scholarships

The number of scholarships to be awarded, and the amount of each scholarship, will be determined by the Board.  Each scholarship will be made as a one-time award for a given academic term.  The recipient may apply for additional scholarships for additional terms so long as the recipient continues to meet the eligibility requirements.
